Here's To You Lonely Blog Follower
I gather from an email that was sent to me with writing suggestions that someone misses my writing. I do apologize for the lengthy absence. I really am having trouble with the whole motivation to write thing. It seems often the motivation strikes and the computer is not available and then it's gone. Yes, it is a flimsy excuse since all I need do is ask to use the computer but oh well: there it is.
Big sigh and onward.
I have a lot on my mind lately regarding my father.
In order to understand how all of this transpired one must first somewhat understand the dynamic of my family. My father is married to a woman who is only about 5 years older than me; wife number 4. She has done some things that, well just say if I were Santa Claus she would be on the naughty list for life. My brothers and I do not have a working relationship for some bad things in my past. I don't want to go into detail just trust me when I say it is not petty. Okay, so here we go. I found out by reading a comment one of my brothers had posted on Facebook that some thing was wrong with my dad. I called to find out that he had been taken to a hospital ER due to having passed out. When I called his wife didn't say much just what that he had passed out on the kitchen floor. She then handed the phone to my dad and he said a doctor had not been in to see him yet. I thought I would get a call back when information was available. I was wrong. I did not hear back and when I called back I was told he has a blockage in his neck. I was not told how much of a blockage is was but told that he would have surgery the following day which was a Sunday. I got home from church and checked my phone; no one had called. I thought maybe they got a late start on the surgery so I waited a few more hours. No one called so I called again only to find out the surgery had been postponed. On Monday the same brother posted on Facebook that he was wanting prayer for my dad adding that he had 90% blockage in his neck. The routine was the same Monday; no one called me. I called and talked to my dad again and he told me the blockage had been removed and he was waiting to find out when he could go home. (My dad hates hospitals more than most people) Something about the way he was talking made me realize he wasn't really clear on what was done to him so I called the nurses station and asked for information. I was told he had had a heart capacity test and no stent was put in or anything done with his neck. By then I was ready to scream and throw things in frustration! Here I am stuck hundreds of miles away with no one to get any real information from!
I continued to call every day, sometimes twice a day to try to find out what was going on. He continued to believe that he would be released any time. When I called Tuesday he said the doctor had not come back in to see him at all on Monday and he was fed up and wanted to go home and have his church pray for him. Sure enough, when I called back later that day he was home.
God has been dealing with me about trusting Him and I have to say this one has been a whopper of a trial in that regard. I know God can heal my dad miraculously and completely without the help of modern medicine. But I also know all wisdom comes from him and doctors are gifted by Him. Yet I can't make my dad choose to let doctors do what they want to do and I can't intervene. Okay God, here I am trusting You that You have all this in Your Mighty hands and if You choose to take my dad home to You I will have to be okay with that. I want to see him again before that happens but I know I will see him again in any case.

Ten Days Of Gratitude Day 2
Today i am grateful for every day I have not had a migraine. I have a migraine about once month on average and they usually last a day or so. I know people who have migraines at least weekly and that often last many days. I am so grateful I am not one of those people! I just wish no one had to suffer with them.

New Design, Hope You Like It
Figured I couldn't get away with doing a new design and not posting. That would not have been a cool thing to do; though I did consider it. I think of a lot of things to write when I am not sitting in front of this thing but no sooner than I sit down at the computer my mind just goes to mush. Not that it needs to go far to get there ^.^
I am finally going to get some help with my housework. I signed up for a home health care worker the day I got out the hospital and it just got through the approval process this week. My worker is supposed to start today and should have been here half an hour ago but the office called 10 minutes after she was supposed to be here to say she was running late. I better like her a lot! I don't like people being late.

Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes Blog Tour

My apologies to the author and publisher for the tardiness of this post.
Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes by Robin Jones Gunn
Summer Finley makes a decision to realize a lifelong dream when she is faced with the news of an abnormal mammogram. She heads for Holland where she enjoys tulips, wooden shoes, and her best friend, Noelle,
Noelle and Summer have been pen pals since fourth grade, but have never met face-to-face. Through decades of correspondence, they have developed an abiding friendship. A week of together helps both of them release anxiety and develop a deeper trust in God. When Summer finally reveals the news of her abnormal medical report, Noelle finds the freedom to share a her own deep heartache, and both women discover they needed each other more than they realized.
This book made me laugh so hard at times I cried but also touched my heart tenderly and deeply as well. Summer's exploits in Holland were funny and the descriptions of the flowers and shops and things made me want to go to Holland for myself. That is not easy to do for this homebody. I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy this book in the Sisterchick series. This was my first foray into this particular author's works. I had heard of the Sisterchick books but dismissed them as frivolity. I was quite mistaken in that opinion and plan to catch up on the series as well as the other books this author has written.
Publisher note
Women ages 35 and up, readers of Christian Boomer Lit, and fans of books such as The Yada Yada Prayer Group will enjoy Robin Jones Gunn’s humorous and uplifting style. True-to-life characters and moments of poignancy bring a deeper understanding of the value of life and the gift of true friends. Readers guide and bonus material included.

Yikes, update indeed!
My last update was the 14th?! No wonder I got a request for an update. Tsk tsk tsk, shame on me!
Sigh, I really don't know what to say for myself except that I have been laboring under the side effects of new medication. Some my recall a post a while back about an embarrassing incident in the Health Food Store. Well the incidents became more and more frequent until I was forced to start wearing a protection almost all of the time and certainly if I were planning on being out of the house. I finally decided it was time to talk to my MD about it. I had been hoping it would get better as I lost weight but such was not the case, in fact I think it was getting worse with the weight loss. Of course he wanted me to try a medication, the main reason I had waited so long not to say anything was that I did not want to add another medicine unless absolutely necessary; but he said it was, especially to rule out other causes of the problem. But ever since I started the medicine I have become increasingly tired and sluggish. It has been long enough that it is obvious by now it is not going to go away, so I contacted my MD. I go back on Wednesday afternoon. He was going to just change my prescription but all the medicines in the class carry the same side effect, so now we need to come up with another approach. So this is why I have not posted, and have not done a whole lot of anything for the last couple of weeks. I just can't get enough sleep and when I am not sleeping I feel like I moving through half dried cement so I don't got a lot done. Seems like this is one the things that goes by the wayside when I am not up to par.
I will try to get on the ball and get back on here and get caught up with what is going on in my life.
Like getting a new puppy and my latest attempt at becoming independent.
I will also be doing more blog tours for some interesting books so stay tuned and please don't hesitate to poke me.

Never Say Diet Book Review
Author Bio: Chantel Hobbs is a personal trainer, certified spinning instructor, and motivational speaker whose no-excuses approach to fitness has won her a grateful following across the country. The author of Never Say Diet, Chantel hosts a weekly fitness program on Reach FM radio and is a regular guest on Way FM. Her “Ditch the Diet, Do the Weekend” bootcamp takes place several times a year in a variety of locations. She has presented her unique approach to lasting fitness in People magazine and on Oprah, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Fox News, The 700 Club, Living the Life, and Paula White Today. Chantel enjoys life with her husband and their four children in South Florida.
I am late posting this and I hope the author and publisher accept my profuse and profound apologies, I simply lost track of what week I was in. I am thinking this was somewhat Freudian in nature though, as I don't have a glowing review of this book.
Chantel Hobbs lost 200 pounds and went from morbidly obese to spinning instructor and marathon runner. For these I commend her, that is a really hard thing to do. Mrs Hobbs' story of success touched so many people and got such wonderful feedback and questions, that she decided to write a book to help others achieve the same success she has.
I do not wish to diminish Mrs Hobbs accomplishments in anyway, and I hope you will keep that in mind as I say what I thought of her book, Never Say Diet..
Faithful readers know I am on a journey to improved health and am on The GI Diet.
The first thing I have against this book is that she trashes all diets. While I agree one could probably circle the globe at least once with the number of useless, if not harmful, diet books there are, I must take umbrage with her assumption that everyone who has written a diet book or come up with a diet is wanting to keep you fat so they can continue to make money. There are some wonderful programs that have helped a lot of people and the book my doctor told me to read and follow; GI Diet by Rick Gallop is a very good plan that is sustainable and very healthy. Weight Watchers too, though they charge to go to meetings. However, once one makes her goal, meetings are free as long as she maintains her goal weight. I hardly would call this " conspiring to keep you fat".
I find in ironic that while trashing to weight loss industry Mrs Hobbs in more than happy add another book to the pile and get profit from it.
I also must take exception to Mrs Hobbs advice to start an exercise plan first. She does not take into account that many on this journey are no longer in their 20's, as she was, and that the lack of energy that accompanies being obese, especially morbidly obese, leaves one feeling like she is walking through half hardened cement. She also does not take into account that many who are obese have other serious health issues that limit or prohibit exercise. The thought of a 60 minute cardio workout is like asking one to climbing Mt Everest and about as likely to happen, especially at 100+ pounds overweight. In fact if one begins eating right that the exercise she gets from carrying around the extra 100 or more pounds is enough. One is much better off easing into an exercise plan as the weight decreases and energy increases.
The greatest thing I have against this book though is Mrs Hobbs message that if one is fat one is ugly and lazy. She says all the right stuff but it is clear that deep down she doesn't believe a lot of it. It is sad that she has tied her self esteem to her looks, but it is a shame that she is advising others to do the same. She is a beautiful woman, she was at 200 pounds overweight and she is now. But she didn't believe she was beautiful until she lost the 200 pounds. Not only that but she had breast augmentation afterward. I get having plastic surgery to remove the loose skin losing so much weight brings, if one can afford to do that is makes some sense. Personally I will look on my loose skin ( should I get that far) as a reminder of where I was and where I don't want to return to. But I don't have a problem with one having it removed or even having some lift restored; but breast enhancement? This says shallow to me. There are people with real issues, like cancer that need this type of surgery. To do it so one can have a more shapely body instead of being proud of the body they worked for, this is, in my opinion sad and sends the wrong message. You can tell your children the truth til you are blue in the face but it doesn't do a bit of good if you don't live it. I know this from painful personal experience. I don't think Mrs Hobbs has anymore business writing a book on changing one's life than I do on how to beat depression! She traded one obsession for another but both are tied to her low self esteem. She now depends on the accolades of others and the view in the mirror for validation rather than seeking solace in food, but that in not really a brain change as much as it is transference.
Now I don't want to leave an impression that Mrs Hobbs book is all bad, she has makes some good points. I also don't doubt many have been inspired by her story and may be anxious to have your very own copy of her book. If that is the case, you can comment on this post and have a chance of winning your very own copy of not only Never Say Diet but the companion book The Never Say Diet Personal Fitness Trainer.
I am adding the information from the publisher to balance this out a bit.The following italicized portion is someone Else's review.

Not Dead Yet
Sorry for the delay in updating. I have been mulling over some things, stressing over some things and of late not feeling well. I seem to be reacting to something in the air these days and have a sore throat, coughing, and congestion. But so far no fever. I am a bit concerned about the color of what I am coughing up; but not to the point of asking total strangers about it ( Big Bang Theory reference. If you have never seen the show you should check it out sometime; way funny even if the theme song is wrong). All this by way of an excuse for staying away. But really it is more than that I just am not ready to talk about that here, at least not right now.
I was blessed beyond descripton this weekend at our church's Women''s Retreat. The guest speaker was a woman whose family were former members. God moved them away and I have really missed them. She is so real and so in love with Jesus it is contagious, and she is even more so now than the last time I saw her. She taught on prayer as the purpose of our daily lives, and it was challenging and comforting, and just plain WOW. I will write more later about it.
Today, I was blessed by reading this . Mostly because it fits my life so well right now. It never ceases to amaze me how God can use a dally reading plan set years ago, to speak to me in whatever circumstance I am in. No matter how my life may change, He never does and His Word is always relevant.
Blessed be the Name of the Lord. For now and ever more AMEN

Stumbling and Bumbling

Today I get my stitches out. By this time after the first surgery I was feeling so good about it, but not this time. I will be glad to have them out, but I am not glad about the slow progress I am making. I still have quite a bit of pain. Not severe like most of my pain, as long as I don't do stuff like try to close the car door with it and dumb stuff like that. What concerns me is that along with the pain, there is still some numbness and and use causes pain to radiate up my arm. This did not happen with the first surgery. I had minimal pain by the time my stitches came out and could use my hand quite a bit by then. I am also struggling more with energy than before. I just don't feel rested when I wake up since the surgery.I don't know if I am experiencing a Fibromyalgia flare or what the deal is.
I am so frustrated and depressed and I feel like a big liar when people ask how I am doing and I say OK but I know most people don't want the dramatic response of the truth of what I am going through. I don't mean that I think they don't care, just that it isn't the right situation for detail. I usually get asked when I am at church and feel crowded and pressed for time. I thought about asking the church office to send out prayer request but haven't because I think people would think I am a liar. Phew.
Pity part over;time to get on with my day. Thanks for letting me vent on you internet.

GI Diet update
Well it has been just over a week since I went to the MD and he told me I am severely hypoglycemic and put me on the GI Diet. Here is a video; try not to judge me too harshly; I am not photogenic!
My energy level has increased about 40 percent and my pain level has decreased about 50 percent!

Light at the end...
Finally; some answers!
I went to the neurologist on Wednesday( yesterday) morning and was told I have severe carpal tunnel syndrome in both arms and need surgery asap. This explains the symptoms the other tests did not and the MD feels it is the worst of my the cluster of neurological problems I am having. Therefore I will be having the right arm done on the 20th and the left arm done about a month later; the exact timing depends of my recovery from the first one. Once the arms are done we will address the issues with my neck.
Wednesday afternoon I went to see my family MD for a follow-up after my Glucose Tolerance Test. Good news is I am not diabetic; however, I am hypoglycemic which is also referred to as pre-diabetes and serious business. My MD put me on a Glycemic Index Diet. He gave me a book title to look for and I will plug this despite the fact that I am not getting paid because I think this may be the one diet I can get behind. It is The GI Diet by Rick Gallop.Check it out; I think it would be great for anyone to do and it is especially important for people with health issues such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. The tough thing is that groceries will end up costing more and on a fixed income this will be an adjustment. Once the arms are done we will address the issues with my neck.
